The Risk and Insurance Management Society Inc. (RIMS) has announced plans to become a "premiere resource and support organization" for members' enterprise risk management program (ERM) efforts.

The New York-based RIMS said its board of directors recently met to finalize its ERM business plan, tasking each board member with a role in upholding this commitment.

In March, RIMS conducted an e-mail survey of more than 1,000 risk managers and found that nearly two-thirds of respondents are either involved in developing an ERM program or are considering doing so.

In response, the RIMS board commissioned a new ERM committee earlier this year to bring special focus to ERM within RIMS and to create resources specifically for risk managers engaged in ERM development within their companies.

RIMS said it continues to explore opportunities, services and resources that would be relevant for the growing population of its members engaged in ERM programs.

In the months and years ahead, RIMS said it will offer new resources to support organizational implementation of ERM, including education, information, networking, services and tools.

Last week, a RIMS ERM Summit for senior risk managers was held at the Cornell Club in New York City. Three upcoming RIMS Fellow workshops on this topic have been planned for Winnipeg, Seattle and Houston. Additional revised and updated professional development programs on the topic will be launched in 2006, RIMS said.

Enterprise risk management also will have significant prominence at the 2006 Annual Conference and Exhibition in Honolulu, RIMS said. At this time, nearly a dozen ERM-related sessions and workshops are scheduled, including "Risk Management and the Bottom Line," "ERM Forum," and "ERM Implementation--Progress and Pitfalls."
