Marsh Ltd. has launched a London-based Public Sector Practice to focus on the needs of U.K. local authorities, development agencies, and police and fire departments, the company said.
"This new Public Sector Practice is an efficient, cohesive mix of local service and in-depth industry expertise," said Brian Show, Marsh Public Practice Leader.
The UK public sector, particularly at the local level, is undergoing "huge change" and is active in seeking consultancy and other support to help them modernize and achieve the requirements set by central government, Mr. Shaw added.
As an example of some of the changes, Mr. Shaw noted that U.K. Home Secretary Charles Clark is driving through reforms in Parliament focusing on reducing the number of police personnel.
In addition, local governments are being challenged to meet new and evolving assessment criteria, Mr. Shaw said.
The services offered by the new practice will include insurance design placement and advice and captive insurance operation consulting, including alternative risk transfer.
Other services include human capital risk consulting and business continuity management.
