Washington_A major brokerage executive suggested to a Senate panel today that contractors doing catastrophe cleanup work may be unable to secure coverage unless Congress passes a pending measure to limit injury lawsuits.

Paul Becker, the North American Construction Practice Group Leader for Willis, gave his warning in testimony submitted to the Senate Subcommittee on Superfund and Waste Management.

Contractors must plunge into the work without full knowledge of the perils, and insurers "tend not to write policies if they are not able to make the necessary judgments," he explained.
