Progressive Insurance Company is now writing policies in New Jersey.
Democratic Acting Gov. Richard Codey made the announcement yesterday, noting it is the fifth company to enter the state in the last two years.
The Mayfield, Ohio-based company will offer two of its top ten lines to state drivers.
Motorists can obtain Progressive Drive policies through a local independent agent while Progressive Direct is accessed online or over the telephone.
Two years ago, the state legislature enacted reforms that its proponents asserted would lead to the entry of numerous national insurance carriers back into the state's market.
Acting Insurance Commissioner Donald Bryan said that more than $412 million has been returned to New Jersey drivers in the form of rate reductions and dividends since the enactments of the reforms.
