A restructuring of Florida's Hurricane Catastrophe Fund proposed by Democrats in the state's House of Representatives may be too broad in scope to win support from across the aisle.

Towson Fraser, a spokesman for Florida Speaker of the House Allen Bense, R-Panama City, said that Republicans in the Florida House are "still looking" at the proposal, which would change how Florida deals with hurricane damages to a system similar to the National Flood Insurance Program.

Mr. Fraser did not dispute the idea that some reform is necessary to better help Florida homeowners find affordable insurance coverage for hurricanes.
