NU Online News Service, Feb. 15, 12:37 p.m. EST?Hub International Limited's employees have raised more than $100,000 for relief agencies to aid victims of the tsunami that hit South Asia and Eastern Africa on Dec. 26, 2004.[@@]

The Chicago-based insurance brokerage firm said the money will go to the American and Canadian Red Cross tsunami relief funds. The money was raised through payroll deductions and fundraising events.

Martin P. Hughes, chairman and chief executive officer of the firm, said the broker would contribute an extra $10,000 to the effort.

The U.S. portion of the funds, more than $52,000, was given to the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago yesterday. The Canadian contribution will be made during this week.

Heather Schneider, corporate communication manager for Hub, said employees contributed in a variety of ways to the effort aside from voluntary payroll deductions.

In the Chicago office, employees held a silent auction of items they donated to the cause. Some of the items included tickets to a Chicago Cubs or Chicago Bulls game, gift certificates to a local restaurant, a golf outing, dinner with an executive, massage gift certificates, and preferred parking in the executive's underground parking lot for the week.

At Hub Midwest, employees contributed to a dress-down day fund which allowed them to wear jeans to work.

Mr. Hughes said, "At Hub, we take our social, moral and community responsibility seriously, and I'm very proud of this fundraising effort."

The firm is considering ways to continue an ongoing volunteer relationship with the Red Cross, Ms. Schneider said.
