New Captive Ed Program Names Cantor Director

NU Online News Service, June 15, 2:30 p.m. EDT?The International Center for Captive Insurance Education, a program to be launched this fall to provide education for the captive industry, announced it has hired Mitch Cantor of Shelburne, Vt., as its first executive director.[@@]

Mr. Cantor was chosen by ICCIE's board of directors to lead the effort. His background includes extensive business and marketing experience, management of nonprofit organizations, and grant-writing and fundraising expertise.

Beginning in September, ICCIE will offer its first courses, according to the Vermont Captive Insurance Association, which spearheaded the effort.

The curriculum contains five core courses, a series of electives and teleconferences. Courses will be taught in person and online by a staff of recognized industry experts, VCIA said.

Students will be tested upon completion of each course and must be successful in each exam in order to receive their certification. Participants may also register for individual modules rather than the certification track, according to VCIA.

Dan Labrie, president and chief executive officer of Housing Authority Insurance Group, said, "The education of participants in the captive insurance industry is essential to our success and that of all captive insurance companies." He added that knowledgeable professionals are key "to a well-managed, high-quality captive industry."
