Buyers Tips For Dealing With Brokers
Ruth A. Unks, president of the Public Risk Insurance Management Association in Arlington, Va., and risk manager for the Maricopa County Community College District in Tempe, Ariz., offered the following list of “Do's and Don'ts for Risk Managers” when working with brokers:
Do keep in touch with all brokers as products, services and companies change.
Don't become broker trained–have original thoughts.
Do build professional and cordial relationships with brokers.
Don't overuse the helpfulness of a broker.
Do be willing to admit when a current broker may not be servicing an account as it should be serviced, and be sure to communicate this to the broker.
Don't build in perks or expect the broker to always entertain me.
Do, above all, be open and honest with brokers.
