The Russian Re Crisis That Never Was

The Russian reinsurance sector has been expecting a major crisis to blow away domestic reinsurers. To their relief, it hasnt happened. Even better, they say, the growth rate last year for domestic reinsurers was roughly 160 percent over the 2001 level, and more of the same is expected for this year.
In the past five years, the crisis the domestic reinsurers were most afraid of was a takeover of their businesses by foreign firms.
