We can certainly understand why independent agents are apoplectic about a rule handed down by the Federal Communications Commission which will effectively gag many of their telemarketing pitches–even those to personal referrals and current clients.

Agents certainly should do whatever they can to overturn the FCC’s move–either by convincing FCC officials to change their minds, making their case to Congress or taking their complaint to court. Telemarketing is crucial to many agency prospecting campaigns. One top official at the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America went so far as to suggest that if the FCC rule is allowed to stand, it could mean the end for many independent agencies.
