Captive Association To Stage Road Shows

By Caroline McDonald

NU Online News Service, Oct. 1, 1:53 p.m. EDT?The Vermont Captive Insurance Association and Vermont officials said they will go on the road to stage seminars explaining how captive insurance organizations function in their state and their strategic advantages.

The seminars will be held in Texas and Massachusetts this fall, in order to make them easily accessible, said VCIA.

Molly Lambert, president of VCIA, told National Underwriter that taking the seminars on the road "brings Vermont to those locations" and creates a "showcase for how we do things."

What's important about these seminars, she said, is that "we bring with us the chief Vermont regulators."

She noted, "I can't tell you how many people have said to me, ?I can't imagine that any regulator from our state would devote the time and attention to this kind of exercise that these people do.' It sends a real message what it's like to do business in this industry in Vermont."

Ms. Lambert explained that locations are chosen based on the number of captive owners in the area and interest.

Seminar panelists will include captive owners from companies in the region where the meetings are held, as well as Len Crouse, Deputy Commissioner of Captive Insurance from the State of Vermont. The seminars are free, but reservations are required.

Presenters will discuss, "Understanding the Strategic Advantages of Captives, Regardless of Market Conditions," and also describe the captive climate and regulatory requirements in Vermont, the largest U.S. domicile, according to VCIA.

The first seminar will be held in San Antonio, Texas, Oct. 15 at 3:30 p.m. at the Westin La Cantera Resort, VCIA said.

On Nov. 6, a seminar and reception will be held in Newton, Mass., at 3:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Newton Hotel.

At the conclusion of the seminars, a reception will be held to give those new to the captive industry a chance to network with VCIA members in attendance.

Details and online registration are provided on the association's Web site at www.vcia.com.
