IIABA To Offer Diversity Training Course

By Michael Ha

NU Online News Service, Aug. 18, 3:28 p.m. EDT? The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America said it will introduce in October a diversity professional development training program, geared toward independent agency owners, producers and managers.

"This course is designed to help agents who serve inner city and urban communities and deliver insurance protections to residents of those communities," explained Jeffrey Myers, spokesman for the Alexandria, Va.-based agent association. "The program will provide those who serve emerging urban and minority communities the necessary knowledge to build successful operations."

IIABA's new program, called "Associate in Insurance Agency Operations," will offer comprehensive instruction in strategic planning, sales training and customer service in urban communities. Agents participating in this program, Mr. Myers added, will get a chance to learn about tactical planning, marketing strategies and effective negotiation skills.

Madelyn Flannagan, IIABA vice president of education & research, also noted, "It is vital for independent agencies to serve emerging markets with professionalism, expertise and skill, and the course is designed to help them do exactly that."

The first session is scheduled to begin on Oct. 22.
