Ga. Captive Assoc. To Hold Confab

NU Online News Service, Aug. 12, 3:00 p.m. EDT?The Georgia Captive Association announced plans for its annual conference and meeting, scheduled to take place Oct. 15-17 at Barnsley Gardens in Adairsville, Ga.
The theme of the conference is "Potential Uses for Captives in the Era of Enterprise Risk Management," said Kevin M. Doherty, president of the Georgia Captive Association.
Conference topics include choosing a domicile from a captive advisor's perspective; developments in federal taxation of captives; and how captives can use ratings, data and news to their advantage.
A panel will discuss options for Georgia companies utilizing captives in the worldwide insurance market, said Mr. Doherty, an attorney with Greenebaum Doll & McDonald in Nashville, Tenn.
Mr. Doherty said the purpose of the meeting is twofold: to illustrate the advantages of a Georgia-domiciled captive and to illustrate the benefits of captives, wherever they are domiciled, to Georgia companies.
Georgia has 18 captives and its legislation allows direct writing of workers' compensation by licensed captives.
Mr. Doherty added that Barnsley Gardens, the site of the conference, is a four-star resort located about an hour north of Atlanta.
