Lloyds's Gives U.S. Brokers Awards
NU Online News Service, March 13, 10:16 a.m. EST? Lloyd's of London has named Constance Curnow, of Guy Carpenter, U.S. Reinsurance Broker of the Year and Gerald J. Sullivan of the Sullivan Group, U.S. Surplus Lines Broker of the Year.
The U.S. Broker awards for the year 2002, the first of their kind, were announced at a March 5 ceremony at the Lloyd's Building in London.
Ms. Curnow is a managing director of Guy Carpenter responsible for Guy Carpenter's Market Relations and Market Information departments. She has received a number of awards for her achievements, including being named the year's outstanding achiever by the National Association of Insurance Women in June 2001.
Mr. Sullivan established G. J. Sullivan & Associates Inc. in 1980 and is currently the company's president and chief executive officer. Based in Los Angeles, he has served on many insurance association boards over the years.
The two awards were established in recognition of Lloyd's growing role in U.S. insurance and reinsurance markets to honor individuals within the U.S. broking community for their outstanding contributions to the Lloyd's market.
Lord Peter Levene, chairman, Lloyd's of London, in a statement congratulating the two award winners, thanked them "for their hard work, dedication and energy. Without people like them, Lloyd's would not be the success it is in the U.S. today."
"We set up these awards to recognize excellence and dedication," he continued, "and are delighted to present them to two such worthy recipients in this first year."
The United States now accounts for up to 40 percent of all Lloyd's business, Lloyd's said. Surplus lines and reinsurance are the two main sectors that Lloyd's is involved in, said Lloyd's.
