New Program Created For EB Professionals

NU Online News Service, Jan. 31, 11:00 a.m. EST?An organization that provides specialized training for members of the employee benefits industry said it has created another study program for a new professional designation.

The new home-study offering from the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist Program in Brookfield, Wis., gives graduates a designation as CMS, or Compensation Management Specialist.

Besides the new CMS program, CEBS said it also provides training as a Group Benefits Associate and a Retirement Plans Associate.

CEBS is sponsored by the nonprofit International Foundation and its courses have been developed by the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Courses offered by CEBS cost between $200 and $250 and the exam fee is $250.

CEBS said in addition to offering the new designation it has a new curriculum model with a "core plus electives" approach. Candidates earn the CEBS designation by completing eight courses?six required and two electives.

Required courses include two from each core area?group, retirement and compensation.
