ACE Workers Scale Peak, Raise Charity Cash
ACE Limited of Hamilton, Bermuda said 15 of its employees scaled Mount Kilimanjaro as part of an effort that raised over $250,000 for charity.
The company said the climb, completed July 11 in Tanzania, raised money for The ISIS Foundation, a Bermuda-based charity that assists children in Nepal and Uganda through health and educational projects.
Kilimanjaro at 19,340 feet is the highest mountain in Africa, and Edmina Bradshaw of ACE, who spearheaded the climb, called it difficult, humbling and “the most awesome experience of our lives. “
She added that, “The thought of the children in Nepal and Uganda who will benefit from this expedition, as well as the hundreds of people who have sponsored us on their behalf, helped spur us on to the summit.”
In addition to Mrs. Bradshaw, members of the team from ACE were: Roger Gillett, Patrick Mitchell, Deborah Smith and Keith White from ACE's Bermuda offices. Also, Tim Fisher, Gregory Kelder and Joanne Massey from ACEs offices in the United States, and Leo Takagi, ACE Japan, were on the team.
The rest of the climb team included Walt Massey, Taylor Lane from Guy Carpenter in New York, Miyoki Oda, Petra Tanner, Kenny Tanner and Dr. John Tanner, the team physician.
Each member of the expedition raised money for the climb. All the climbers raised at least $10,000 for The ISIS Foundation, and some raised over $20,000. The ACE Foundation, ACE's charitable trust, said it plans to match the money raised by the ACE climbers.
