Aon Denies SEC Investigation

Global insurance broker Aon issued a press release late last week denying reports in a newsletter that it is under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

In its press release, the Chicago-based broker said it is “not aware of any formal or informal investigation being conducted by the SECs Division of Enforcement despite speculation to that effect in a subscription newsletter dated July 10.”

Aon went on to say that it received a comment letter from the SECs Division of Corporation Finance on July 3 concerning disclosures in the firms 2001 Form 10-K and first quarter 2002 Form 10-Q. The firm said it would reply shortly to the SECs letter.

According to an SEC spokesman, the comment letter from the finance division is part of the normal review process and is a common occurrence at the SEC.
