Ron Dudley joined ACORD as the organizations new vice president of standards. He had most recently been with Atlantic Mutual Insurance.
Ohio Casualty Corporation named Philip G. Heasley; Ralph S. Mike Michael, III; and Jan H. Suwinski to its board of directors. Heasley is chairman and CEO of First USA, the credit card subsidiary of Bank One. Michael is executive vice president of The PNC Financial Services Group. Suwinski is professor of business operations at Cornell Universitys Johnson Graduate School of Management, where he teaches classes in operations, business strategy and strategic alliances.
The Phoenix Companies appointed Coleman D. Ross as executive vice president and chief financial officer (CFO), effective April 1. Ross, who said, Im excited about joining the Phoenix management team as chief financial officer, replaces David W. Searfoss, who had been CFO and has become executive vice president for financial strategy. Technology Decisions has learned he will report to Dona D. Young, president and chief operating officer.
American Re-Insurance Company appointed an entire new senior management team to direct the five strategic business units of its U.S. P&C underwriting operations. It also appointed new chief underwriting and chief marketing officers:
Dominic J. Addesso was named president of American Re Direct Treaty. Kevin Davidson was appointed president of American Re Direct Facultative. M. Steven Levy was appointed president of American Re Credit. Stephen J. Morello was appointed corporate chief underwriting officer. (He had been simply chief underwriting officer.) And John H. Snyder was named chief marketing officer. All of these positionsand the people in themwill report to Albert J. Beer, who was recently named president of the companys strategic business units.
Fifty-six year old Samme Thompson was elected to the Conseco board of directors.
MetLife Investors Distribution Company promoted Ed Wilson to executive vice president of the wirehouse channel. Wilson had been executive vice president of the broker/dealer channel.
Daniel F. Bass was promoted to vice president, reinsurance, of Pacific Lifes life insurance division, where he will lead the divisions entry into the retrocession line of business.
Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Group announced that deputy chairman Anthony Forbes retired from the board after eight years. According to the company, the retirement will be effective from the conclusion of the 2002 Annual General Meeting. No word on when the retirement will be effective to.
ACE USA Professional Risk, which is entering the medical professional liability market, formed a new medical professional liability division called ACE Medical Risk. It will be led by senior vice president Ross Bertossi. Caroline James was named vice president and Annick Ducasse named assistant vice president of the new division.
Stan Griffin has been chosen as the new president and chief executive officer of the Insurance Bureau of Canada, taking over from George Anderson. Although the organization interviewed a select handful of formidable candidates, Griffin emerged as the unanimous choice. Still, Anderson was invited to continue as a member of the IBC Board.
Dublin-based Rick Hodgdona well-known authority in the life and health reinsurance industrywas named Transamerica Reinsurances executive managing director of the companys new Irish reinsurance facility.
