Point Well-Taken On Sponsor 'Abuse'
To The Editor:
I am going to make Ara Trembly's “Technology Enabled” column of March 18 (“Sponsor Abuse Can Ruin a Conference,” page 18) required reading for all of my clients (present and future).
This is a message I preach over and over again to my vendor clients relative to the “opportunities” they are given to speak at conferences–whether sponsoring or not. My message to them is that if their plan is to present a commercial, they would do themselves a better service by not showing up at all. Better to have no presence than a negative one.
I agree with Mr. Trembly's suggestion that if the vendor starts a commercial, just get up and leave.
I will keep this article in my arsenal of tools when working with my clients. Now they'll know it's not just me nagging and preaching. Thanks for the honest and to-the-point article.
