NUCO Offers RM Tools & Techniques Book

NU Online News Service, Dec. 26, 11:15 a.m. EST--The Professional Publishing Group of the National Underwriter Company has announced the release of a new book to aid risk management professionals and students.

The "Tools & Techniques of Risk Management and Insurance" is a comprehensive book that offers insight into the tools and techniques needed to assess, quantify, and address the risks that businesses face.

It explains the framework of the risk management process, including a discussion of the latest thinking on enterprise risk management. It then discusses the tools that may be used to address these business exposures.

"A cornerstone to the book is its commitment to clearly defined, practical information that is easily applied in everyday risk management," said NUCO, based in Erlanger, Ky.

"Students will find the book easy to use and understand, filled with insight into the world of risk management and property-casualty insurance. Businesspeople will be able to use the book as a road map to managing their business exposures. Clearly defined terms are encapsulated into glossaries at the end of the chapters," NUCO added. (NUCO is the parent company of the NU Online News Service.)

The 16 technique chapters outline the skill areas needed to develop and implement a comprehensive risk management program. These techniques include discussions of various risk treatments, including non-insurance contractual transfers, insurance transfer, and alternative risk transfer--such as captives and other risk-sharing techniques.

Also included are discussions of loss control, claims management, emergency response and business continuity planning, global risk management, insurance companies, and working with an agent or broker.

Twelve tools chapters provide information on potential treatments of the issues raised in the techniques chapters. In addition to providing insight into various types of insurance coverages, the tools chapters also address capital markets risk transfer, loss control, certificates of insurance, claim reviews, and surety bonding.

Written by four industry and educational experts, the book features numerous checklists, charts, graphs, and forms that illustrate and help when applying the tools and techniques that are discussed.

"This book is recommended to students in the risk management and property-casualty field, to business professionals who need direction in the complex field of risk management, and to risk management and insurance professionals who are searching for a practical desk reference," NUCO said.

The book may be obtained by calling 1-800-543-0874, as well as online at www.nationalunderwriter.com/nucatalog/.
