NU Online News Service, Oct. 17, 11:40 a.m. EST?The Hartford Financial Services Group has announced plans to double its workforce at its Oklahoma City customer service and sales center, adding upwards of 380 new jobs over the next 15 months.

The Silver Springs Crossing office, which opened in 1999, provides auto and homeowners insurance to members of AARP and services customers across the country, the company said. It currently houses 387 employees, the Hartford, Conn.-based carrier added.

The new positions include front-line managers, customer service and sales representatives, and administrative assistants.

Plans call for approximately 135 new employees to be hired by year-end, the company said. The balance of new hires would take place in 2003.

To accommodate the growing staff, the Hartford said it has enlarged the Oklahoma City offices by 33,000 square feet, bringing the total leased office space to 100,000 square feet.

The carrier said it currently writes two million insurance policies at its service and sales facilities in Oklahoma City, San Diego, and Southington, Conn.

The Hartford has been providing automobile and homeowners insurance to members of AARP since 1984.
