VCIA Announces 2003 Conference

NU Online News Service, Sept. 30, 12:43 p.m. EST?The Vermont Captive Insurance Association announced its 18th Annual Conference will take place Aug. 5-7, 2003, at The Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center in Burlington, Vt.

Vermont is the largest captive domicile in the U.S., and the third largest in the world. During the first half of this year, 26 new captives were licensed in Vermont, setting a record pace, according to the state's Department of Banking, Insurance and Securities.

Since 1981, Vermont has annually licensed an average of 25 captive insurers. Vermont closed 2001 with 38 new captives?37 pure and one sponsored?for a total of 527 at year-end.

VCIA said the conference will feature nearly 20 educational seminars led by industry captive experts from around the globe.

The VCIA conference is the largest captive industry event in the world, VCIA said, with more than 940 participants at this year's conference, held in August.
