Minches Insurance Scholarship Founded
NU Online News Service, Sept. 11, 11:30 a.m. EST?The Edwards & Angell law firm said it has established a memorial insurance scholarship to honor the memory of their colleague Leonard H. Minches, a former New York insurance department official.
The firm said the Edwards & Angell, LLP, Leonard H. Minches Scholarship Fund would be at St. Johns University School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science (formerly the College of Insurance) in New York.
Edwards & Angell said the goal is to raise a minimum of $25,000, to commemorat "attorney, colleague, mentor and friend Leonard 'Lenny' H. Minches, and Counsel at Edwards & Angell who died June 2.
Mr. Minches was also a former special deputy superintendent of the New York State Insurance Department Liquidation Bureau.Mr. Minches, who lived in Coral Springs, Fla. practiced in the firm's Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach offices and was a member of the Florida and New York Bars.
"We sincerely regret Lenny's passing and thank him for his untiring efforts, his vision, leadership and unforgettable sense of humor. He will always be in our hearts," said Alan J. Levin, partner and head of the insurance and reinsurance practice group at Edwards & Angell.
Mr. Levin said the fund will "provide scholarships to deserving students of insurance and continue Lenny's devoted efforts to mentor the young insurance professionals with whom he worked."
The firm said that colleagues in the insurance industry who knew Mr. Minches encouraged to join Edwards & Angell in remembering him by making a generous contribution.
A published author, internationally recognized speaker and dean of the insurance insolvency bar, Mr. Minches practiced insurance and reinsurance law for over 40 years.
