Former NUCO President McMackin Passes Away

Bernard P. McMackin, Jr., former president of the National Underwriter Company, died on Feb. 8 at the age of 78.

Mr. McMackin began in the insurance business with his father's agency in Brockway, Pa., then served with the Home Insurance Company as assistant examiner, educational supervisor and metropolitan special agent.

He joined NUCO in 1951 as assistant editor of The FC&S Bulletins, later becoming its editor. He was eventually named NUCO's editorial director, then was elected president in 1972 and chairman in 1988. He retired in 1989.

During his career, he also served as an elected or appointed official with the International Insurance Society, the Insurance Hall of Fame, the American Risk and Insurance Association, and the Griffith Foundation for Insurance Education, among other posts.

The McMackin family has requested that memorial donations be made to: Healing Connections, 1601 Madison Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206.
