Five Regulators, One Firm Join NITF
NU Online News Service, July 17, 12:34 p.m. EST?A Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit group that works to help low income households buy homes, said five insurance regulators and an insurer have joined the organization's membership.
NeighborWorks National Insurance Task Force members are: the New York State Insurance Department, the Indiana Department of Insurance, the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services, the District of Columbia Department of Insurance and Securities Regulation, the Ohio Department of Insurance and American Skyline Insurance Company in Baltimore, Md.
NITF said its work helps homeowners reduce risk and improve the safety of their homes, creating better-educated customers for insurers.
Earnest E. Hines, president and chief executive officer of American Skyline, said, "We see real synergistic opportunities with this partnership. Given that urban America is the focus of our company, we are excited about having an opportunity to work with state insurance officials, insurance carriers, and community and business leaders to solve important issues that our neighborhoods face."
Gregory V. Serio, New York Insurance Department superintendent, said his department, with Neighborhood Housing Services of New York City and the National Insurance Task Force, "will break new ground in improving access to insurance in New York and throughout the country."
NITF's membership, besides regulators and insurance companies, includes insurance industry trade associations, educational institutions, Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation and the members of the national NeighborWorks network.
"These new partners will bring additional knowledge and expertise to our work and enable us to expand the results of our successful pilot projects to additional markets," said NITF director Todd Pittman.
NITF's annual Insurance Symposium and national meetings, part of the Neighborhood Reinvestment Training Institute, will take place August 7-8 in San Francisco.
More information on the National Insurance Task Force and its symposium is available through Todd Pittman, NITF Director, (404) 347-6203 or [email protected].
