ACIC Set To Merge With NAII
By Mark E. Ruquet
NU Online News Service, July 19, 2:38 p.m. EST? The Sacramento, Calif.-based Association of California Insurance Companies has reached a tentative agreement to merge with the National Association of Independent Insurers, an NAII spokeswoman said.
Joanne Orfanos, with the Des Plaines, Ill.-based NAII said a final affiliation agreement is pending NAII's due diligence and working out additional details, which are under discussion. She said the two organizations hope to finalize an agreement within "the next month or so."
"ACIC is a well-respected and recognized name in California, and we feel there is good synergy between their work and our own" that makes affiliation attractive, said Ms. Orfanos, adding that the state of California is an important state to the organizations.
The two organizations would continue to work as separate entities because each augments what they are both doing in the state, Ms. Orfanos said.
Currently, there are five company members in the ACIC membership. NAII has more than 700 members nationally.
Ms. Orfanos said once the affiliation is finalized, ACIC will be headed up by Sam Sorich, NAII vice president of the Western region.
She said NAII plans to put out a statement once the affiliation is finalized and the association has "every confidence it will go forward."
The merger was first reported in the Workers' Comp Executive newsletter.
