B&B Drops Arthur Anderson

NU Online News Service, June 20, 3:33 p.m. EST?Daytona Beach, Fla.? based insurance broker Brown & Brown announced today that it will no longer employ the convicted accounting firm of Arthur Anderson, LLP.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the broker said that on June 14 the company board's audit decided "to no longer engage" Arthur Anderson as its public accountant. The firm has instead chosen Deloitte & Touche, LLP, to serve as its accountant.

For the two years Anderson performed work for Brown & Brown there were no problems or disagreements, the filing said.

Arthur Andersen was the broker's accountant for both the firm and the Employee's Savings Plan and Trust. Deloitte will assume those responsibilities for this year.

Arthur Anderson was convicted earlier this week in federal court of conspiracy to destroy documents related to the investigation of the collapse of Enron. The accounting firm has since said it will no longer perform audits of public companies.
