GLB Privacy Primer Online For Insurers

NU Online News Service, May 29, 10:52 a.m. EST?Syntrio Inc., a San Francisco-based Internet course provider, announced today it is offering interactive, online training for insurers in the customer privacy provisions of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.

The company said the Privacy Laws and Practices course provides an in-depth analysis of privacy laws and identifies best corporate practices for managing non-public personal information regulated by GLB.

Dave Carlyle, chief executive officer of Syntrio, said the training helps protect private consumer data and "benefits the insurance industry by helping to institute practices that prevent the illegal use and sharing of data, functionally reducing corporate exposure to potential damages."

The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act implemented sweeping changes to financial services regulations, including new provisions regulating the institutional use and sharing of consumer data.

Syntrio said its "Privacy Laws and Practices" provides an overview of GLB and other privacy regulations relevant to insurance companies, defines key privacy terms and concepts, and identifies best practices with regard to consumer concerns.

The firm said its latest offering complements Syntrio's risk management and compliance library, which includes many legal, OSHA and other regulatory compliance courses that deliver cost-effective, Web-based training designed to manage risk and ensure regulatory compliance.

Syntrio describes itself as a provider of complete online training solutions, featuring regulatory and compliance courseware, and delivering highly interactive, Web-based training to clients ranging from small businesses to the divisional level of the enterprise.

The company said its learning management system and hosted services complement its offering of courseware, enabling clients to implement e-learning compliance solutions with little or no demand on IT resources.

Syntrio said clients who have chosen its learning management system and courseware include Aegis, Fireman's Fund, Ford Motor Company, Genentech, Hewlett-Packard, Katz Media, Pennzoil and Silicon Graphics.
