Pa. Agent Associations Merge
NU Online News Service, March 15, 9:32 a.m. EST?The boards of the Independent Agents Association of Pennsylvania and the Professional Insurance Agents Association of Pennsylvania announced the merger of their organizations.
"Our members have clearly told us that they want a single organization to represent their interests in Pennsylvania and our two boards have agreed that we can better serve our members by merging," Chuck School, chairman of the board of the PIA of Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware said in a statement.
The new organization will maintain affiliations with both the Independent Insurance Agents of America and the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents, both based in Alexandria, Va.
The PIA operations in Maryland and Delaware will be unaffected by the merger.
Peter Gebhard, president of the IAA of Pennsylvania, said the merger strengthens the voice of the state's agents and would create a better package of products and services for members.
The associations are still working on a governance structure that will be voted on by the memberships of both associations in the next few months.
The new organization would represent nearly 1,400 independent insurance agencies in Pennsylvania, the statement said.
