ISO Offers Loss Control Courses Online

By Daniel Hays

NU Online News Service, March 15, 9:23 a.m. EST ? Members of the loss control and safety profession can go online now to take courses in topics like "Preventing Check Fraud" and "OSHA Compliant Construction Sites," Insurance Services Office in Jersey City, N.J. announced.

Those and other course selections, which carry continuing education credits, are being put on the Web by the Engineering and Safety Service unit of ISO.

The self-study offering, titled Technical Achievement Program, is designed for loss control consultants to keep abreast of the latest technical information by learning through the Internet and taking tests online while expanding their knowledge of insurance loss control topics, ISO said.

The TAP program is linked to loss control information published by the Engineering and Safety Service unit on its Web site. Candidates can take a self-paced, written examination on the contents of select Engineering and Safety technical reports, and receive 0.5 Continuing Education Unit credits for passing each test.

ISO said the Engineering and Safety Services unit will offer four tests a year, allowing loss control and safety professionals to earn up to two credits each year.

Previous TAP examinations will stay online for the rest of the calendar year, so participants may go back and complete any examinations they might have missed, ISO said.

The program will offer the first on-line examination in mid-April. Only Engineering and Safety Service subscribers are eligible to participate. There is a $25 fee for each examination.

ISO said persons wanting to obtain more information about the program or to sign up for the on-line tests should contact William F. Hauswirth at [email protected], ISO Customer Service at 800-888-4476 or [email protected].
