NAMIC Conference Has Terror Focus

NU Online News Service, Feb 15, 3:43 p.m. EST?The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies will hold a claims conference with terrorism as the topic for its keynote speaker.

The event is scheduled for March 11-13 at the Hilton Hotel in Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla.

NAMIC, based in Indianapolis, Ind., said it has recruited experts to attend the meeting and provide up-to-date information on subjects such as recognizing fraud, disaster management, handling business-interruption claims and other topics applicable to a claim organization.

Keynote speaker Walter Purdy, director of the Terrorism Research Center, Burke, Va. will discuss "Terrorism's Changes On The Industry."

Mr. Purdy has developed and directed the training of law enforcement officers and has supported efforts by the State Department and the Department of Justice, NAMIC said.

Ron Poindexter from the National Insurance Crime Bureau in Tampa, Fla. office is slated to conclude the morning program.

Tony Yorio, Guy Carpenter and Company vice president of client support services, will deliver a personal recollection of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and describe Guy Carpenter's efforts at damage control and recovery, NAMIC said.

Breakout sessions will be held on fire case management, catastrophe planning and management, best practices, and farm business interruption, with roundtable discussions to conclude Tuesday's session.

Sessions on arbitration, appraisal, subrogation and disaster recovery will be held Wednesday.

Claims committee members and Claims Conference speakers will be available to answer questions at an "Ask The Expert" panel session Wednesday.

The conference begins with a Monday 5 p.m. reception and concludes at noon Wednesday, NAMIC said.

Registration for the conference can be done online at www.namic.org. NAMIC said a printable registration form is available for downloading, which can be mailed to NAMIC, Claims Conference Registration, 3601 Vincennes Road, Indianapolis, Ind., 46268 or telexed to 317-879-8408.

The registration fee for members is $239 before Feb. 23 and $289 after that date. For non-members, the registration fee is $319 before Feb. 23 and $369 afterward.
