N.Y. Broker Gets Turner's Trumpet Award
NU Online News Service, Jan. 15, 2:40 p.m. EST?A New York insurance broker is one of the recipients of this year's Turner Broadcasting Trumpet Award.
Ernesta G. Procope, president and chief executive officer of E.G. Bowman Company, Inc., New York City, received the award from Atlanta?based Turner Broadcasting System Jan. 7.
The award salutes African-American men and women who have distinguished themselves in the fields of medicine, education, literature, politics, sports, business and entertainment.
Ms. Procope founded E.G. Bowman as a small insurance agency in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1953. She directed its growth to become a leading minority-owned and woman-owned insurance broker.
The firm, which deals in commercial and public entity coverage employs 40 professionals and serves more than 2,000 clients, including more than 60 Fortune 500 companies.
Along with Ms. Procope, the 10th annual Trumpet Awards honored National Security Advisor Dr. Condoleezza Rice, former Senator and U.S. Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun; Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, supervisor, Second District Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors; the Rev. Dr. Johnnie Colemon, founder, Christ Universal Temple; Sylvia Flanagan, senior editor of Jet magazine; Spelman College President Dr. Audrey Forbes Manley; Dr. Vivian Pinn of the National Institutes of Health; and U.S. Congresswoman Maxine Waters.
The awards ceremony will be broadcast Saturday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. EST, and 8:30 p.m. PST, on TBS Super-station. Richard Roundtree, Nancy Wilson and James Avery will act as hosts.
