A Reinsurer Returns After Sept. 11 Attack
NU Online News Service, Jan. 15, 12:42 p.m. EST? Three hundred employees of reinsurer St. Paul Re, who were driven from their headquarters by the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, returned there yesterday, the company announced.
The St. Paul Re base is at 195 Broadway, a block from where the Twin Towers stood.
All of the employees were safely evacuated after the attack, the company said. For the past four months, they had been working from the St. Paul Re office in Morristown, N.J., temporary space in Jersey City, N.J., and other locations in the New York metropolitan area.
``We are delighted to be back in our offices,'' said Jim Duffy, chairman of The St. Paul Companies' Reinsurance Group, ``Our landmark building was relatively unscathed, but full telecommunications service has only recently been restored."
Mr. Duffy said St. Paul Re employees had "come through a lot, and have delivered their best.'' St. Paul Re is the reinsurance operation of The St. Paul Companies, St. Paul, Minn.
