Agent, State Associations Get IIAA Honors

An Arkansas independent agent who worked on policy form changes, and four state associations that have been active in educating agents have been honored with awards from the Independent Insurance Agents of America.

Karen Regan, an independent agent from Little Rock, Ark., was given the annual Matthew A. Cantoni Jr. Technical and Risk Management Award. Ms. Regan, a past chair for IIAAs Consumer and Technical Affairs Committee, was recognized for her role working with IIAA and the Insurance Services Office on form changes, particularly those dealing with pollution exclusions.

The Alexandria, Va.-based association announced that the Independent Insurance Agents of New Mexico, the Alabama Independent Insurance Agents, the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of Washington state, and the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents received the L.P. McCord National Education Award. The award, in three state membership size categories, is given in acknowledgement of an association's work in providing educational programs for agents.

Eight state Young Agents committee organizations were also recognized for their work in promoting and developing leadership within their states.

The 2001 Outstanding Young Agents Committee Award went to the Young Agents Committee of the Independent Insurance Agents of Indiana. This is the second year in a row that the Indiana group has won the IIAAs top national young agents committee award.

The committee was given recognition for its work in politics, membership development, communication and promotion of the independent agency system.

The Young Agents Committee of the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina was named runner-up and was honored with the Outstanding Membership Development Award.

Four additional national awards of excellence recognizing the leadership of young agents committees in state associations were also presented.

The Outstanding State Committee Project was shared by three recipients–the Young Agents Committee of the Independent Insurance Agents of Oklahoma; the Young Agents Committee of the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents; and the Young Agents Committee of the Kansas Association of Insurance Agents.

The Outstanding Communications Award went to the Young Agents Committee of the Insurance Brokers and Agents of the West.

The Outstanding Young Agents Meeting Award recipient was the Young Agents Committee of the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia.

The Outstanding Political Involvement Award was given to the Young Agents Committee of the Independent Insurance Agents of Kentucky.
