NAPSLO AnnouncesMid-Year 2002 Meeting Changes; Annual Unchanged

The National Association of Professional Surplus lines Offices, Ltd., recently announced that it plans to expand its 2002 Mid-Year meeting.

The meeting, which is now being called the 2002 Mid-Year Marketplace & Business Roundup, was previously scheduled as the Mid-Year Educational Workshop.

In addition to the name change, the location of meeting will change alsomoving to San Antonio from Scottdale, Ariz., where the meeting was originally scheduled by held.

The dates of the meeting are now Feb. 24-27.

San Antonio was supposed to be the site of the September 2001 annual convention for the Kansas City, Mo.-based Association. But the annual convention, which was scheduled to take place on Sept. 12-16 of this year, was cancelled because of the events of Sept. 11.

“More than 2,200 people registered for the annual convention in San Antonio and we were on-target to have one of our largest registrations ever,” said NAPSLOs president Tapley Johnson Jr. of TAPCO Underwriters in Charleston, S.C., in a statement.

“With the market being very strong, and the networking aspect of our meeting being very important, NAPSLO wanted to set up opportunities for members to meet with other members,” he said, noting that the expanded mid-year meeting will allow members to network.

Included on the Mid-Year 2002 conference schedule will be two panel discussions, “Reinsurance in a Hard MarketGuess Whos in the Drivers Seat,” and “Placements in a Hard MarketAnd By the Way Hows Your E&O.” The panels are scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 25.

Registration materials will be mailed in November. The deadline to register is Jan. 8, 2002.

NAPSLO also announced that the changes in the 2002 Mid-Year meeting will have no impact on the 2002 NAPSLO annual convention, which is still set for Oct. 6-10 in Boston.

In addition, NAPSLO announced that the Mid-Year Education Workshop meeting will resume with a meeting in Palm Springs in 2003. The Scottsdale meeting now will take place in 2004.
