IIAA NationalBoard Selects Heads
The Independent Insurance Agents of America's National Board of State Directors announced the selection of W. Cloyce Anders as the association's president-elect and elected Louise "Bebe" C. Canter, as vice-president.
The honors came during the IIAA's Executive Committee mid-year meeting in early May.
Ms. Canter is the first woman elected to the Alexandria, Va.-based association's top leadership panel, the association said in a press release.
Mr. Anders' nomination to the post of president-elect awaits confirmation by the membership. He is president of both VFIS of North Carolina, and Anders, Ireland & Marshall, Inc., both of Raleigh, N.C. He is a managing partner of Independent Agency Services, LLC, Durham, N.C.
Mr. Anders was president of Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina from 1989 to 1990. He represented the state on IIAA's National Board of State Directors from 1992 to 1997. Mr. Anders was elected to the Executive Committee in September 1997.
Ms. Canter is senior vice president of Patterson/Smith Associates, Falls Church, Va. She has served the Metropolitan Washington Association of Independent Insurance Agents as state national director and president. She served as chairman of the Southern Agents Conference and a member of the IIAA Large Agents Committee. She was elected to the Executive Committee in September 1998.
Benfield Completes Blanch Deal
On Tuesday, May 29, London-based broker Benfield Greig announced completion of the purchase of Dallas-based E.W. Blanch.
Benfield reportedly paid $165.4 million for the troubled insurance brokerage firm, at $13.50 a share, for 94 percent controlling interest.
Benfield announced it would be acquiring Blanch on April 16.
