After weeks of beta testing, Eigensoft (www.eigensoft.com) is set to release its ClaimsAgent mobile claims software solution for handheld wireless devices this month. Field testing ran for a month as eager adjusters pushed the software and related hardware devices-infrared printer, digital camera, and handheld unit-to the edge of insurance sanity.

The property-estimation software is used by field property adjusters to complete estimate reports on site, print them for review by the insured, then transmit the data via a secure Internet connection to a back-end claims processing server.

A workflow example in more detail: The adjuster receives property loss form (ACORD form 1 in XML format) electronically; he reviews loss description as well as the property and records data and produces real time estimates using ClaimsAgent; he then settles with the insured and produces the report; the report is transmitted wirelessly and securely via the Internet; the report is routed to the appropriate system; administrators inspect, print, and review the XML-based report; the report is processed and committed to the insured's account.
