Jane Barker has been named the new Chairperson of Marsh Ltd., where she has served as a non-executive director since 2010. She will replace Peter Middleton, who is retiring from the position on Aug. 1.
Barker has been the CEO of Equitas for six years; previously, she was CEO of the London Stock Exchange. She also has a 14-year history working for Marsh, where she was named Managing Director and International Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in 1988.
“It has been gratifying to watch Marsh progress from strength to strength in the three years since I rejoined the company,” says Barker. “I look forward to working with Mark and the UK leadership team to ensure we remain fully-focused on serving the needs of clients and providing them with world-class solutions.”
Mark Weil, Marsh Ltd. CEO, says, “Since joining the board, Jane has made a substantial contribution to the company. With her extensive background in financial services and her deep knowledge of our business, she is ideally placed to provide strong advice and guidance for our UK operations.”
Barker is also a member of bout Council of the Royal College of Music and a lay canon and member of the Chapter of Salisbury Cathedral.
Middleton, former Barclays Capital chairman, will remain UK chairman and country corporate officer for Marsh Ltd.'s parent company, Marsh & McLennan, and chairman of sister company Mercer Ltd.
