David Owen, CIC, CPA, has been promoted to director of commercial lines of BB&T-Oswald Trippe and Company in Fort Myers. Additionally, he will continue as branch manager of the Cape Coral office and will oversee all commercial operations of the agency's offices in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Holmes Beach, Miami, Naples, Ocala, Sarasota and Weston, Fla.

Owen is president of the Lee County Association of Independent Insurance Agents for 2010-11. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from Furman University and an MBA from the University of Georgia.

Oswald Trippe and Company was the largest employee-owned insurance agency in Southwest Florida prior to its 2009 merger with BB&T Insurance Services. BB&T Insurance Services, the nation's sixth largest insurance broker, is a wholly owned subsidiary of BB&T. Founded in 1922, it operates more than 100 insurance agencies in Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Florida and California.
