Former Wisconsin Insurance Commissioner Sean Dilweg was named vice president, product executive of Madison, Wis.-based CUNA Mutual Group.
CUNA Mutual provides retirement and investment products to credit unions and their members worldwide.
"Sean Dilweg is well known and respected within the insurance community and a high-level addition to the CUNA Mutual team," said Jim Power, senior vice president and chief products officer at CUNA Mutual, in a statement. "His insights and experience will help us enhance the products and services we provide to credit unions."
Former Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle appointed Mr. Dilweg as commissioner in January 2007.
Mr. Dilweg last year led efforts to rehabilitate Ambac Assurance Corp., a subsidiary of New York-based Ambac Financial Group. Ambac Financial Group recently filed for bankruptcy due to issues stemming from its involvement in mortgage-backed securities and collateralized debt obligations businesses.
Mr. Dilweg also laid groundwork at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) for a climate change disclosure survey to be completed by insurers when he led the association's Climate Change Task Force.
Prior to his appointment as commissioner, Mr. Dilweg served as the executive assistant to the secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) from 2003 to 2006.
He has also served as the vice chair of the Interstate Insurance Product Regulation Commission (IIPRC), an entity that tries to simplify the product filing process for insurers operating in the states that participate in the compact.
Wisconsin's new governor, Scott Walker, recently appointed Ted Nickel as the state's next commissioner.
