An insurer allegedly refused to pay a 2017 hurricane damage claim submitted by a Miami Lakes condo association. That move, which already has a multi-million dollar price tag, may lead to further exposure.
"[The insurer] should have known that an appellate court should not disturb a verdict under these circumstances," said Blake Dolman, a litigator not involved in the case.
The large settlement came after the insurer paid policy limits to the driver of the vehicle that was not hit directly by the defendant, but offered a much smaller settlement to the driver of the car actually struck by the defendant.
