Fraud of the Week
Auto Fraud - California
Amount - Unknown
A man was sentenced to 16 years and 4 months in prison for 4 felony counts including insurance fraud, and 11 counts of filing false documents with the court, perjury and identity theft. The man was involved in roughly 40 auto collisions over the course of six years. He would have a collision with another vehicle, file the claim, pocket the money and not have the vehicle repaired. He repeated this scenario over and over, never reporting that there was preexisting damage to the vehicle so that he obtained larger payouts from the insurance companies. He would later sue the innocent drivers in small claims court for additional funds.
