South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency on September 25, 2024, in anticipation of Hurricane Helene. Per South Carolina regulations, during a catastrophe, when there are not enough licensed adjusters or motor vehicle physical damage appraisers, non-resident adjusters or motor vehicle physical damage appraisers can be brought in to adjust losses while not licensed in South Carolina.
On September 30, 2024, the South Carolina Department of Insurance published a bulletin announcing non-resident adjusters and motor vehicle physical damage appraisers are allowed to assist with catastrophe claims in the state for 120 days. Since that period is set to expire soon and the Department has determined they are still in need of additional adjusters and appraisers, they are extending the 120 days to include an additional 90 days.
