On January 11, 2025, heavy windstorms hit many parts of Alaska, prompting the Director of Insurance to declare a catastrophe. Per Alaska Statutes, the declaration of a catastrophe allows for the use of unlicensed nonresident adjusters.

The nonresident independent adjuster must be licensed in another state and be in good standing. The nonresident adjuster can adjust losses related to the catastrophe if they inform the Director in writing and provide their name and firm name, business address and phone number, the licensing state of residence, the resident licensed number, and any other information required by the Director.

An exemption from adjuster licensing can be granted to eligible nonresident adjusters, which will be effective for 90 days. The Director can extend the exemption if deemed necessary in the future.
