The Oregon Driver and Motor Vehicle Services division advised insurance of certain regulatory changes that could impact reporting of motor vehicle collisions. Changes are applicable January 1, 2025. The offense of failure to perform the duties of a driver (hit-and-run) now includes collisions that result from damage caused by a vehicle’s load. This applies to incidents that occur anywhere, even private property.

Drivers are now required to report collisions caused by a vehicle’s load. This also applies anywhere, even private property.

Terminology has been changed - SB 1574 replaced the term “accident” with “collision” across relevant statutes, and the terms “accident”, “crash”, and “collision” are considered interchangeable terms under Oregon Administrative Rule 735-050-0004.
