The Arizona Department of Insurance & Financial Institutions (DIFI) published a news release highlighting some of their consumer assistance accomplishments for fiscal year 2024. DIFI and staff helped consumers obtain over $19 million in reimbursements and restitution throughout the year.
The reimbursements and restitution come from many forms, including insurance and financial institution-related complaints, market conduct actions, and provider grievances.
DIFI's Market Regulation and Consumer Services (MRCS) assisted over 17,000 consumers who contacted DIFI with complaints or requests. MRCS closed 3,486 insurance complaint cases and 479 financial institution complaints, which resulted in a recovery of $14,020,063 for consumers. MRCS recovered an additional $4,834,988 through market conduct actions. Finally, an additional $315,652 was recovered through resolving health care provider disputes.
