The Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) published a press release to warn consumers about online scams and fraud after Hurricane Francine. The Department has seen an increase in the number of scams targeting consumers who have been affected by the hurricane.

One such example is a website created by scammers attempting to phish personal information and send viruses and malware. The LDI worked with one of their anti-fraud partners and was able to get Google to label the site as malware. Consumers should always exercise caution, even when a site has not yet been labeled as dangerous.

Consumers should practice certain actions to stay protected. They should get information from trusted sources, such as the LDI website and mobile app. They should use trusted web browsers that have built-in security features, such as Google Chrome, Apple Safari, or Microsoft Edge. They should verify website links before clicking on them. Finally, they should use anti-virus software and keep their apps and devices updated.
