The Delaware Department of Insurance published a bulletin on a revision to the state's Workplace Safety Program. The program creates safer work environments and helps to lower workers' compensation insurance premiums.
Since the inception of the program, the Department has notified eligible employers of the availability of the program. They also ask that insurers writing workers' comp in the state include information about the program in their renewal documentation. This should include informing the policyholder about a potential premium reduction and the contact information for the Workplace Safety Program.
Delaware Governor John Carney signed Senate Bill 306, which amends 19 Del. C. § 2379 Workplace Safety Program. Previously, only employers paying $3,161 or more in workers' compensation premiums were eligible for the program. The revision removes that requirement and instead, eligibility mirrors any employer eligible for the uniform experience rating plan. This change allows small employers to participate in the program.
