Many Marshall Fire survivors in Colorado are still rebuilding their homes almost two years after the fire took place. The fire, which occurred in December 2021, was the worst in Colorado's history and destroyed more than 1,000 residential and commercial buildings.
Additional living expenses (ALE) benefits are set to expire on the two-year anniversary of the fire next month. Seeking to assist policyholders who are still rebuilding, the Colorado Division of Insurance published a letter addressed to homeowners insurance companies serving policies in the Marshall Fire area requesting that they extend ALE benefits for policyholders affected by the Marshall Fire.
The Division is seeking modest extensions, stating that many policyholders should complete their rebuilding in a few months. That, in addition to the "Housing Support Program for Marshall Fire Survivors," would provide major relief to those affected. The Housing Support Program for Marshall Fire Survivors offers up to $2,500 per month for up to six months for eligible households.
