America has a complicated relationship with firearms. While many Americans firmly believe in their Second Amendment right to carry a gun, many other Americans believe the availability of high capacity and semi-automatic weapons to most citizens over the age of 18 is unreasonable, and stronger gun control measures are needed. America has more guns per capita than any other country in the world: 120 guns for every 100 residents. More than 45,000 people each year die by gunshot in the United States alone. According to a recent study by researchers at the University of Michigan, US, gun violence is now the leading cause of death for American children, surpassing motor accidents, drug overdose and cancer.

The country is now reeling from yet another school shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, where 19 children and 2 teachers were killed by an individual armed with two assault rifles he had recently purchased. This is, unfortunately, the most recent in a growing list of school shootings over the years.

We and our colleagues at FC&S and Law.com have written a variety of articles over the years on liability coverage for firearms and have discussed a variety of court cases. While some of these articles seem outdated, together they build our content of firearm and insurance coverage knowledge and show how the landscape concerning the topic has changed over the last few years.
